Eish, nothing ruins a freshly cleaned window like streaks. The good news is that it is usually technique and water, not the tool.
Why windows streak
Streaks come from dirty blades or pads, too much cleaner, cleaning in hot sun and hard water minerals drying on the glass. Fix those four things and most streaking disappears.
Highveld dust and road dust
Dust turns into mud when you wet it, and that grit can scratch if you press hard. Dry-dust the frame and glass first, then wipe gently with a clean, washed microfibre pad.
Hard water and coastal salt
In many areas the tap water is hard and leaves spots. A splash of white vinegar in your cleaning water can help, and rinsing salt off windows near the coast before wiping avoids smearing it around.
Timing and finishing
Clean in the morning or late afternoon when the glass is cool. Wipe in straight lines, overlap the strokes and finish with a dry microfibre cloth for a lekker clear result.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my windows streak even after cleaning?
Usually a dirty blade or pad, too much cleaner, or cleaning in direct sun. Use less liquid, wash the pad and clean when the glass is cool.
Is vinegar safe on glass?
Diluted white vinegar is commonly used on glass, but keep it off window seals and natural stone, and test a small spot first.
